Decision Making Responsibility
“Custody” is now referred to as “decision making responsibility”. Decision making responsibility refers to the right to make significant decisions about a child’s life and well-being. The decisions may relate to health, education, religion, or other important matters in respect of the child.
A Separation Agreement or Court Order may give decision making responsibility to one or more parents or individuals. One parent may have sole decision making responsibility or the parents may have joint decision making responsibility wherein both parents are involved in the decision making process for the child.
